Science Department Accomplishments

This year the middle school students are using new Glencoe Science texts.

Sixth grade:  Earth Science,

Seventh grade: Life Science,

Eighth grade: Physical Science

We have received many wonderful, free support materials with the new series. There are Power Point presentations for each chapter, virtual labs, mind jogger quizzes, and chapter summaries and reviews. These support materials enable us to continue to use technology to enhance our curriculum. There are also several new lab activities that apply to the material in the chapters. At the end of each chapter is a chapter summary and review. A new addition to these texts is a standardized practice test following the chapter review. This will help the students in studying for their chapter tests.

Text books are also available on line. Each class was given the link, the username, and the password. This information is also listed on the teachers' websites.

Science World Magazines continue to enhance our curriculum.

New videos have also been ordered by the librarian to supplement our curriculum.

We have also started a Science Club this year. We meet on the first and third Thursday of each month. We will complete some lab activities that interest the members and are not part of our regular curriculum.

Dr. Ken Kinzler spoke to the 7 th grade science class about genetics. Mr. Woody Francis, a wetlands biologist will give an environmental presentation to the 7 th grade in the spring.

Our Science Fair will be held in March and we have some new judges who are working currently in a scientific field to join some of the previous judges.
